David FujinoMay 9, 2017.

The Greater Toronto Chapter of the National Association of Japanese Canadians offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of David Fujino who passed away on May 6, 2017.  David was a  member of the chapter’s Board of Directors for several years and served as President from 2014-15.   During his tenure he contributed to the Japanese Canadian community in many ways: he wrote a monthly column for the national JC magazine The Bulletin reflecting his keen interest and insight in the arts; he organized a very successful jazz concert for retired Nisei musician Roy Miya at the Castlewood-Wychwood Towers, a seniors complex in Toronto and held book launches for Japanese Canadian authors Terry Watada and Mona Oikawa.

In addition to being a community activist, David was an accomplished poet, writer and actor.  A profile of his work is online at http://www.individual.utoronto.ca/betts/eng356/david_fujino.htm

David was a personal friend of many on the chapter’s board as well as my good friend.  We will miss his keen intelligence, his thoughtful perspective and his endless creativity.  His passing is our personal loss as well as the Japanese community to which he contributed so much.

His untimely passing is most regretful.  We are truly sorry for your loss.

Sincerely

Bruce Tatemichi

A/President of the Greater Toronto Chapter of the NAJC
