Notification of Annual General Meeting

The Greater Toronto Chapter of the NAJC will hold its ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING on Sunday, December 4 from 3:00 to 5:00pm in the Parish Hall of St David’s Anglican Church at 49 Donlands Ave, (immediately across from the Donlands Subway Stn), The meeting will consist of a brief review of the years activities, annual financial statements and election of 2017 Board of Directors. This year our guest speaker is Ms Kendall Yamagishi, a member of the Japanese Canadian Young Leaders and a lawyer at a Toronto legal aid clinic. Kendall will speak to us about her work at the clinic and update the meeting on the activities of the JCYL. All members and friends are invited to come.

Discussion Series “We Should Know Each Other”

“We Should Know Each Other” is a combined speaker-discussion series presented by the St Andrews Japanese Congregation of Toronto.  The purpose of the series is to encourage discussion among Japanese Canadians to connect/re-connect with each other and the Japanese Canadian community.   The first session of the series starts on Thursday November 3 @ 7pm featuring architect Raymond Moriyama as speaker and discussion lead.  The second session will be held on December 8 and the speakers are Dr Mona Oikawa, Dr Izumi Sakamoto, Dr Pamela Sugiman.  The third session will be held on January 12, 2017 and features authors Kyo Maclear, Lynn Kutsukake, Leslie Shimotakahara and Alexandra Shimo. The sessions are being held in the Parish Hall of  St David’s Anglican Church at 49 Donlands Ave, Toronto,  (which is just across the street from the Donlands Subway Stn). Local JCs on the National Executive Board of the NAJC

At its Annual General Meeting of the NAJC held in Calgary in September, Noreen Kuroyama was elected Treasurer and Michiko Yano Shuttleworth was elected Secretary of the National Executive Board of the NAJC. Also Bev Ohashi is now the Past President of the NAJC and David Mitsui of Edmonton is the new President. Please visit www.najc.ca

2017 Membership Renewal

The Board of Directors of TorontoNAJC is grateful to its 2016 members for their loyal support which has enabled the chapter to carry on its activities in support of the JC community in GTA.   In the next few weeks we will be initiating our 2017 membership campaign and we ask you for your support. Your membership will enable the Toronto chapter to continue to support local JC organizations and activities and maintain a watch on civil and human rights issues in the GTA.   As well, your 2017 membership, includes a subscription to the JC magazine The Bulletin.
