His Excellency, the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, has appointed 88 men and women from police forces across Canada to be invested into the Order of Merit of the Police Forces this year.  Of the 22 members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who were honoured, one was OJCC President Brian Yamashita, who was appointed a Member of the Order of Merit (M.O.M.).  This prestigious award recognizes exceptional service in law enforcement, both nationally and internationally.  However, the selection committee also took into consideration Brian’s volunteer work for the RCMP in activities like the United Way and Cops for Cancer, as well as his efforts on behalf of the Japanese Community in Ottawa.

The investiture ceremony took place at Rideau Hall on May 24, where Brian received his medal from Governor General Johnston.
