Wynford Seniors

Every second Wednesday of each month, the Wynford Seniors Club gather at Toronto’s Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre for a few hours to socializing and to participate in various activities. The Club’s executive committee under the leadership of Betty Moritsugu is to be congratulated – it is always a challenge to come up with engaging programs and they do so with enthusiasm.

On March 20th, I had the pleasure of addressing about 60 seniors in attendance to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Redress Settlement. More importantly, I acknowledged the pain and suffering that the Issei and Nisei endured during the internment and afterwards as they tried bring some normalcy to their lives. I pointed out that thanks to their perseverance, our small community is now in its fifth generation and as a community, we continue to leave – in the words of Muriel Kitagawa – ‘a proud legacy’ of accomplishments. As a sign of our appreciation a free lunch was provided to those in attendance by the Chapter. Thank you goes out to head chef Tak Yoshida and the helpers from Japanese Social Services.

Haru Matsuri Draw
I am pleased to announce that Cathy Tennant is the lucky winner of the Toronto Chapter draw which was held at the recent Haru Matsuri Festival. Cathy, former President of the Edmonton Chapter, was in town visiting with her family. The prize is a ticket for two at our upcoming NAJC 25th anniversary banquet being held on September 21st at the JCCC with a value of over $100.00.

Membership Renewal
Please accept a big thank you to all of you who renewed your membership. The response has been overwhelming and is a great vote of confidence.
